CHF to Announce Scholarships

TORONTO – On Tuesday, November 1st, the Canadian Hero Fund will award four post-secondary scholarships to the children of fallen soldiers at a press conference in downtown Toronto. Representatives from the Hero Fund will be present to answer questions and read written statements from the scholarship recipients, who are currently pursuing studies at the University of Saskatchewan and the University of New Brunswick. Canadian Hero Fund co-founder, Tim Peters, talk on CBC Metro Morning one year after the CHF began fundraising. Tim discusses the progress the Canadian Hero Fund has been able to make in just one year and the different strategies employed by the grassroots charity. Tim also speaks on the first CHF scholarship, received by Matthew Mellish, and the success of the 11 for 11 fundraising campaign.

Canadian Hero Fund Announces Scholarship

Executive Director of the Canadian Hero Fund, Michael Ball, announces the charity’s first scholarship recipient at a press conference. Matthew Mellish will be attending the University of New Brunswick thanks to the generosity of the many Canadians who support the CHF. Matthew’s father, Warrant Officer Frank Mellish was killed in Afghanistan in 2006 after numerous tours with the Canadian Forces. Matthew is an aspiring soldier and is committed to getting good grades. The $10,000 scholarship will cover tuition and books.
