Hot Chocolate 4 Heroes: U of T
On January 11, 2010, University of Toronto student volunteers were giving away hot chocolate at the corner of Bloor and St. George St. in support of Canadian military families. Hot Chocolate 4 Heroes raised over $800 for the Canadian Hero Fund in little more than 3 hours!
Film crews from CBC’s “Connect with Mark Kelly”, City TV news and Army news showed up early to document the event. The event made a splash on campus, attracting President of the University of Toronto David Naylor, and Chancellor of Trinity College Bill Graham among others. Campus newspapers including The Varsity, The Newspaper and The Underground also covered the story.
While most visitors were students and faculty on their way to class, some came from quite a distance to attend. An 84 year old man who saw the coverage on City TV even drove all the way from Oshawa to deliver a cheque – he didn’t have internet to donate online so he came in person!
The Canadian Hero Fund is grateful to local sponsors L’Espresso Bar Mercurio for donating the hot chocolate, Sign-A-Rama and All Signs for donating the banners.
